About Me
Helping you understand your dog — through real experience, not guesswork
Hi, I’m Sharon — the creator of Dog Care Knowledge.
I’ve spent over 30 years caring for dogs, running my own dog daycare, and working through the same challenges many dog owners face every day. This site is where I share what I’ve learned — so you can feel more confident caring for your own dog.

About Dog Care Knowledge
Dog Care Knowledge is built on over 30 years of hands-on experience caring for dogs — from raising my own to running a busy dog daycare where I looked after 20–30 dogs every day.
I’ve spent over 30 years caring for dogs, from raising my own to running a busy dog daycare where I looked after 20–30 dogs every day.
This site brings together everything I’ve learned — real-life experience, professional training, and years of hands-on problem-solving — to help you better understand and care for your dog.
Why I Started this Website
I’ve always talked about dogs — probably more than most — so creating this site felt like a natural step. But more importantly, I wanted a place where I could share what actually works in real life, not just what sounds good in theory.
At one point or another, I’ve faced the same questions and frustrations most dog owners go through — which is exactly why I created this site.
My Experience with Dogs (Real Life, Not Theory)
Over the past 30+ years, I’ve shared my home with multiple dogs — including five German Shepherds and one rescue x-Labrador.
I’ve raised them from puppies, worked through the usual training challenges, and dealt with the kinds of issues most dog owners eventually face — from house training and socialization to behavioral quirks and ongoing health concerns.
That hands-on experience is what shaped the foundation of everything I share on this site.
The Challenges That Taught Me the Most
Like many dog owners, I’ve dealt with more than my fair share of challenges — especially with German Shepherds.
Skin issues, allergies, ear infections… these became recurring problems I had to learn how to manage long-term.
Hudson suffered from severe dry skin and later developed Degenerative Myelopathy, which eventually left him unable to use his back legs.
Ava, on the other hand, has struggled with allergies and has experienced bloat — a life-threatening condition that required emergency surgery.
These weren’t small issues — they forced me to find solutions that actually worked in real life.
Running My Own Dog Daycare
My experience expanded even further when I started my own dog daycare.
What began as caring for a few dogs quickly grew into looking after 20–30 dogs every day, managing a wide range of breeds, temperaments, and behavioral needs.
It reinforced something I now bring into every piece of content I create: there’s no one-size-fits-all approach, but there are patterns, solutions, and practical ways to help.
That hands-on experience naturally led me to deepen my knowledge through formal training.
My Background & Training
I’ve combined hands-on experience with formal training to deepen my understanding of dog behavior, health, and care.
• Certified in Canine Behavior – Animal Care College
• Certified in Natural Health Care for Pets
• Accredited Pet Care Professional
My training covers everything from behavior and training challenges to holistic approaches, including nutrition, herbal remedies, and alternative therapies.
How I Approach Dog Care
Alongside my practical experience, I take a research-driven approach to everything I share.
I regularly study new developments in dog care, behavior, and health to make sure the advice I provide is accurate, current, and realistic for everyday dog owners.
My background in business and research also helps me break down complex topics into simple, practical guidance you can actually use.
What I’ve Learned from Working with Dogs
Over the years, one thing has become very clear: there’s no one-size-fits-all answer when it comes to dogs.
Every dog is different — and what works perfectly for one may not work at all for another. But there are patterns, behaviors, and principles that show up again and again.
• Growth isn’t always linear
Puppies go through growth spurts, plateaus, and unpredictable phases — and that’s completely normal.
• Behavior is communication
What many people see as “bad behavior” is often a dog trying to communicate a need, discomfort, or confusion.
• Consistency matters more than perfection
You don’t need to get everything right — but being consistent makes a bigger difference than anything else.
• Small changes can have a big impact
Adjusting feeding, routine, exercise, or environment often solves problems faster than complex solutions.
• Most owners are doing better than they think
Many people worry they’re getting things wrong — but with the right understanding, they’re usually much closer than they realize.
